Captain Michael Sears, President
Michael has been a firefighter for 22 years, and is currently an Operations Captain with the Halifax Regional Fire and Emergency. Mike is the Union Secretary for the International Association of Firefighters L268. He is currently the Nova Scotia VP for the Atlantic Provinces Professional Firefighters Association and a member of the Provincial Mental Health Steering Committee for First Responders. Mike has worked in peer support since 2012.
Captain Annette Thompson
Annette has been a firefighter for 18 years and is currently an Operations Captain with
the Halifax Regional Fire and Emergency. Annette dedicates much of her free time to
supporting firefighters and others in distress with her own personal therapy dogs.
Claudia and Randy Currie
After the death of our son Kyle in 2018, we decided to work with the local community to establish a charity to provide additional funding in support of training for mental wellness in our local professional Firefighter community in HRM.
Conny Allen
Retired from private industry, Conny has a personal interest in Fight4Life. After witnessing the devastating effects PTSD can have on first responders, Conny has continued to learn about and dedicate time to the F4L charity in hopes to provide a path of hope to other firefighters, families and friends who are struggling.
Nancy Frame
Nancy Frame is a retired partner of PWC, Truro, Nova Scotia. Nancy is a chartered
professional accountant with over 40 years experience working in public practice. When
this charity was created, Nancy immediately offered her expertise to overseeing the
finances of Fight4Life.
David Kells
David Kells is a financial advisor with 40 years of experience in financial advisement
and managing customer investments. David has volunteered as an active member of
the Canadian Ski Patrol since the 1980s. David has seen first hand the effects that
experiencing trauma can have on first responders and is active in all aspects of
Fight4Life.
Tracey Crooks
Tracey has been a professional firefighter with HRFE since 2010. She is very
passionate about the well being of her fellow peers on the job and has been a member
of the Firefighter Assistance Program since 2016, devoting her time and training to
supporting fellow firefighters when they need it most.
Captain Jimmy Turple
Jimmy has been an active firefighter and is currently an Operations Captain with the
Halifax Regional Fire and Emergency. He has been a member of HR Fire for 20 years.
He has worked in many specialized roles (confined space, high level rope rescue,
marine operations) within HR Fire and Emergency.
Shaun Brownell
Shaun retired from HR Fire and Emergency in 2016 after serving 28+ years. In 2007, he
participated as a member of the Benefits Committee for the fire department (2008-
2012). In 2012, Shaun moved to the Peer Referral Team and later became an instructor
for the Peer Referral Team. After his retirement Shaun continued his involvement and
work with the Referral Team.
Sherry Cooke – Advisor
Sherry’s husband was a first responder and her son is an active first responder. She
has seen the toll that being the first on scene for traumas has on first our responders.
Sherry works with the Fight4Life Association group to research and review the
programs to aid our firefighters in their mental wellness.
